Nigerian man sentenced to death for drug smuggling in Malaysia

 

A 35-year old Nigerian man, Abuchi Ngwoke, has been sentenced to death for drug trafficking by a Malaysian Hight Court.
Abuchi Ngwoke was accosted at a Malaysian airport and arrested afterwards after being found with 251.66 grams of Mathapethamine. He swallowed gemstones in Nigeria before boarding a flight to the Southeast Asian country.
After being found guilty of drug trafficking, a Malaysian High Court judge said Abuchi Ngwoke’s attempt to smuggle drugs into the country by swallowing them was “absurd”.
Abuchi Ngwoke was yesterday, Tuesday November 25, sentenced to death. A date has not been set for his execution.

China opens Ebola treatment centre in Liberia

 

The fight against Ebola in Liberia has received a boost as China has constructed a 100-bed treatment center in the country’s capital, Monrovia.

The centre was opened on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, in a ceremony presided over by Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The centre was reportedly finished within a month and the Asian country has also deployed 163 medical workers from an elite unit of the China’s People’s Liberation Army to work in the facility.

The current Ebola outbreak has claimed over 5000 lives but cases of the disease are said to be on the decline in Liberia.

PDP Will Never Win Election In The State - Oba Of Lagos

 

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would never win elections in the state.

Oba Akiolu stated further that God would give the citizens of Lagos another governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The royal father reportedly stated this during the launch of the autobiography of the former President of the Court of Appeal, Mustapha Akanbi, at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja on Wednesday, November 26.

Oxford Adds 'Bae', Other New Words to Dictionary

Oxford lexicographers have added a set of new words to its vocabulary. Words like “vape”, “bae” have all been accepted as legitimate words.

“Vape” has been named as Oxford's International word of the year because of the rise in the use of the word as it relates to electronic cigarettes.

"Vape", a verb meaning to inhale and exhale the vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device, emerged the word of the year beating words like "bae", "normcore" “budtender”, “normcore” “contactless” and “slacktivism”.

According to Oxford’s calculations, usage of "vape", which as a noun can refer to an e-cigarette or similar device, more than doubled between 2013 and 2014.

Judy Pearsall, Editorial Director for Oxford Dictionaries, said: "As vaping has gone mainstream, with celebrities from Lindsay Lohan to Barry Manilow giving it a go, and with growing public debate on the public dangers and the need for regulation, so the language usage of the word “vape” and related terms in 2014 has shown a marked increase."

"Bae", which is used as a term of flattery for a romantic partner originated in African-American English and has been propelled into global usage through social media and lyrics in hip-hop and R&B music. It is thought that it most likely originated as a shortened form of baby or babe, but is sometimes interpreted as an acronym for "before anyone else".

NBA Super Star Dwight Howard, Under Criminal Investigation Over Child Abuse

Dwight Howard is under criminal investigation for child abuse ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We've learned the Cobb County PD in Georgia now has an active criminal investigation into allegations he beat his 6-year-old son Braylon with a belt buckle.  

TMZ broke the story ... the Dept. of Children and Families in Florida (DCF) determined there wasn't enough evidence of child abuse to go forward, but it turns out the incident occurred in Georgia. Howard admits he hit his kid with a belt  but says he didn't know it was wrong because he was hit as a kid.

Law enforcement tells us ... Georgia cops asked Florida for the file but the DCF dragged it's feet and did not cooperate. So it turned into a cold case until Monday, after Cobb County detectives saw the TMZ Sports story summarizing a doctor's findings that Howard committed child abuse.

A Georgia law enforcement source tells TMZ, "People who were not so forthcoming before today [Monday] have been."  The source adds detectives did several one-on-one interviews Monday and say the case "has not been raised to top of the list."

Howard's attorney tells TMZ, Howard's baby mama Royce Reed is "shopping her baseless allegations" to Georgia authorities even though Florida's Dept. of Children and Families found her claims had "no merit."

For the record ... DCF found the allegations credible but concluded they did not meet the standard of proof required for formal action.

The attorney says he's confident that Georgia will reach the same conclusion because "The truth is on our side."

Police Officer Shoots Bus Driver Over N50 Bribe

For daring to refuse tipping a police officer attached to the Federal Highway Patrol the paltry sum of N50, a commercial bus driver, Umaru Bayi, is battling for his life at the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, after he was allegedly shot in the pelvic by the angry officer and left for dead.

The driver who was coming to Lagos from Jos, the Plateau State capital, according to passengers in the ill-fated vehicle, was accosted by the police patrol team with the number plate on their van NPF 6843, on duty along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at around 1pm on Monday, November 11 and in the process of cross-checking the particulars of the vehicle, a brief argument ensued when it came to dropping the said bribe.

A witness reported the incident thus:

After stopping the bus, the unidentified policeman reportedly demanded a N50 bribe from the driver, but the driver said he only had N1,000 notes.

The driver had also asked his passengers to assist him with a N50 note to pay the bribe demanded, but none of the passengers had it.

Following the vain search, the driver had offered his N1,000 note to the policeman and asked for 'change'.

But the policeman reacted with anger, asking 'should I be looking for change for you?'

The insolence of the driver was seen as an affront on the 'gallant' officer who then ordered the driver down from the bus. The driver was still arguing when the apparently drunk policeman suddenly cocked his gun and allegedly shot the driver in the pelvic area.

When the other officer saw that their colleague had shot the driver, they summoned on him to enter their van and they escaped from the scene, leaving concerned citizens to rush the badly injured driver to the hospital.

According to reports from the hospital where Umaru is currently on admission, he is said to be in a critical condition.

Deaths as Jerusalem synagogue attacked

An attack on a synagogue in West Jerusalem has killed at least four Israelis and two Palestinian attackers, police said, prompting Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to vow a "harsh response".

Palestinian group Hamas welcomed the attack on the Har Nof Synagogue and said it was "a natural reaction to Israel's practices" against the Palestinians.

Israeli police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, confimed the attack and the death toll in a Twitter post . Police sources had earlier said that five Israelis were killed.

The attackers, who were identified as being from Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem, managed to get inside the synagogue before being shot dead by police.

Rosenfeld said it wasn't immediately clear what weapons the suspects used to attack worshippers.

Dekker said there were conflicting reports on what they were armed with, with some saying the men had knives and axes. Earlier reports said the attackers were armed with guns.

The area has been cordoned off by police, television footage showed.

US Secretary of State John Kerry condemned the attack, saying it was an "act of pure terror and senseless brutality and violence".

More violence expected

The latest violence came after months of tension between Israelis and Palestinians in the city, which is divided between a largely Arab east and a mostly Jewish west.

Late on Sunday, a Palestinian bus driver was found hanged in the vehicle. Israeli police said he killed himself, but many Palestinians believe he was killed by Jewish settlers. 

At least six Israelis have been killed in a spate of attacks over the past few weeks. 

"Everyone expected this to happen. Jerusalem is boiling," Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas official,reports.

"Yesterday, the Israeli forces demolished the houses of the Palestinians who attacked Israelis but they never punish Israeli attackers. We are expecting more violence." 

Jerusalem has also seen confrontations, that sometimes turned deadly, around the flashpoint al-Aqsa Mosque in the eastern side of the city.

Palestinians are angry at what they say are repeated attempts by right-wing Jews to enter the Muslim-run compound housing the mosque. The compound is also considered by Jews to be a holy site.

Palestinians also complain that Israeli forces impose restrictions on Muslim worshippers trying to pray there.

Ekiti State Gov.Ayo Fayose Accused Of Awarding N200m Contract To Blood Brother

The All Progressive Congress in Ekiti State has accused the state Governor, Ayo Fayose, of awarding a multi-million Naira contract to his blood brother.

The party is alleging that the Governor awarded a N200m contract of repainting the Ekiti State Governor's Office to his brother.

In a statement released by the Ekiti State Publicity Secretary of APC, Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Monday, November 16, the party alleges that Gov. Fayose asked for marble to be put in front of the Government House and also accuses the Governor of bringing the marble workers from Ibadan, leaving out the state indigenes from benefiting from works in their own state.

"He told the Permanent Secretary, General Administration Department and Head of Service to find an alternative entrance for civil servants who work within the Governor's Office building because he doesn't want to be meeting the workers while coming in through the main entrance. This has been effected as civil servants in the Governor's Office now pass through the back to their offices, yet this is the class of people he professed to be his friends before the election and he has also cancelled the appointment of eight permanent secretaries that were legally appointed after passing necessary examinations according to the service rules," part of the statement read.

Since he became Governor of the state in September, Fayose has come under constant criticism from the opposition party, APC.  The party recently released a statement assessing the first month of Fayose's Governorship. The party said that Fayose’s one month in office has been filled with gloom, anger and frustration.

French Perfume Maker Set To Release EBOLA Fragrance

As the Ebola Virus is currently ravaging most of West Africa and getting the attention of the whole world for the wrong reasons, some people are however also cashing on it.

From makers of Ebola Halloween costumes, to others setting a high price for a domain name Ebola, a French company is now set to release a perfume called EBOLA.

According to reports from several French websites, the Director of Marketing for the EBOLA Perfume, Aleron Céline, says the popularity of the name has prompted the company to name one of their products after it. Céline says the company is doing it just for humour purposes and not to scare anybody.  

 “Ebola headlines dominate our daily life. It’s a household word everybody is thinking about, everybody is talking about. And so many people joke about Ebola we feel that they will find it funny to spray themselves with EBOLA too… as a bit of a joke,” Céline says

 “Of course, some might see people spraying themselves with EBOLA and think they are deliberately infecting themselves and that will be part of the fun, but this is just a unisex fragrance completely absent of Ebola virus. It’s just a very nice smell… earthy, grassy smelling," Céline added.

Another US School Bans Nigerian Student Over Ebola Fears

16-year-old Samuel Ubezonu was asked to stay home from school over Ebola fears after his father, Somto (pictured) made a trip to Nigeria

A Nigerian family resident in Durham, North Carolina has been forced to go to court after their child was banned from school over Ebola fears.

16-year-old Samuel Ubezonu was told to stay home by authorities at the Mount Zion Christian Academy after his father,Somto returned from a trip to Nigeria on October 27.

In a letter to the teen’s parents, school Superintendent Donald Q. Fozard Sr. wrote:

“We value your family and all of our families and consider it our foremost responsibility to maintain a facility that is both physically and environmentally safe for all.”

The boy’s parents urged a judge to grant a restraining order to allow Samuel return to school as he had not traveled outside the U.S. in two years.

The family’s lawyer, Dieter Mauch said in court:

“The bottom line is, we wish we weren’t here. Certainly, everyone has a health concern about infectious diseases, and Ebola in particular, but we can’t just act out of fear.”

“There's misinformation that's been disseminated about Ebola. Nigeria is a country that is Ebola free,” the lawyer added.

In determination of the case, Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson ordered the Mount Zion Christian Academy to readmit Samuel immediately adding that officials at the school had overreacted to concerns about the Ebola virus.

This comes after 7-year-old Ikeoluwa Opayemi was also asked to stay home over Ebola fears after making a trip to Nigeria for a wedding.

US Doctor Dies Of Ebola In Nebraska

Dr. Martin Salia, an American resident who was infected with Ebola in Sierra Leone, has died, the hospital treating him has announced.

Salia was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center(UNMC) on Saturday, November 15 for treatment and the hospital announced on Sunday that the doctor was in “extremely critical condition.”

UNMC announced today, November 17, via Twitter that the doctor had passed on. It said:

“We are sorry to announce that the 3rd Ebola patient, Dr. Martin Salia, has passed away as a result of the advanced symptoms of the disease.”

“Dr. Salia was extremely critical when he arrived here, & unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we weren't able to save him.”

Salia, who was a native of Sierra Leone but married to an American citizen, is the second person to die of Ebola on US soil after Liberian Thomas Duncan lost his life to the disease at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on October 8

Ice Prince Finally Admits He Once Dated Yvonne Nelson

For the first time since rumours came out that Ice Prince and Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, the rapper has come out to confirm he once had a relationship with the popular movie actress.

In the latest edition of The Truth With Olisa Adibua, Ice Prince Zamani confirmed that he was once in a relationship with Yvonne Nelson. When asked by Olisa on why they broke up, Ice Prince mentioned that their busy schedules created a space between the two of them. "It just didn't work. She's a very very busy person. She's way busier than I was at the time" shyly revealed Ice Prince.

Ice Prince also stated that his other relationship with fashion designer Yvonne Nwosu didn't work because of the same reson. He maintained that he is still cool with both Yvonnes.

Olisa Adibua also quizzed the Choc City rapper if he has had any one night stand with a female celebrity. Ice Prince who has just released two new singles answered in the affirmative. "I am a guy. Sometimes we just get up to stuff" said Ice Prince. He however refused to reveal any names.

On his relationship with his son's mother, he praised her for not giving him any baby mama drama, and thanked for coping with his 'B.S'. Ice Prince says he wants to get married, but not in the near future.
