Beyonce and Jay Z could be close to setting up shop on the  west coast ... after taking multiple visits to a ridiculous $85 million Beverly Hills estate.

Our real estate sources tell us ... while they were living in L.A. over the summer they checked out a brand new 23,000 square foot cliffside palace twice.

In addition to panoramic views of Malibu and downtown L.A., the 8-bedroom, 15-bathroom house features an attached 16-car garage, infinity pool, wine cellar, and a 24-seat movie theater.

Jay and Bey got a taste of L.A. life this summer while leasing a mansion in exclusive Holmby Hills for a whopping $200,000/month! The mortgage on the Bev Hills crib would likely cost 'em way more than that.

Still, chump change for them.
