Police officers attached to the Ondo State Command on
Saturday, beefed up security around the premises of Chevron Nigeria
Limited, following the ultimatum issued by the host communities of the
oil giant.
The Nation reports that, the communities had on June 30 and July 7,
2014, written separate letters through Ilaje Ugbo coastal communities
development committee (IUCCDC) to Chevron Nigeria Limited and the state
governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko.

The communities in the letter signed by the chairman of council of
Baale , Ugbo land, Chief Oyetomi Andrew, the secretary, Chief Asunmaga
Abayomi, Youth leader, Nana Adedeji and chairman Ilaje patriots Comrade
Aganyebi Kosieda, gave the oil giant 11-day ultimatum to pay them their
outstanding benefits or vacate the land in its own interest.
According to the letters, the communities threatened to shut down the
operations of the company in the region at the expiration of the
ultimatum, if their demands are not met. They called on Mimiko to
urgently intervene in the matter to prevent an impending crisis.
The communities, who lamented what they termed “unholy alliance” by
some state government officials with Chevron company stated that, such
alliance was very unfavourable to their demands.
Chevron Shops For Indigenous Buyers For Oil Blocks
The IUCCDC, however, urged chevron to start immediate payment of the
three years scholarship for their indigenes as contained in the
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they signed in order to avoid any
misfortune. It also called on the oil company to start relating with
them as they were the authorised associations that represents the
interest of the state’s oil communities.
